• What inspired you to pursue a career in science and technology, and how has this influenced your writing?

From an early age, I was curious and intrigued by everything in nature. I asked my parents so many questions and read so many books. Science was my favourite subject; I loved learning the facts and wondering about the mysteries. That is why I found myself drawn to science-fiction and adventure books where I could let my imagination run wild. My zest for reading and writing about all things science-related only grew, so it was natural for me to pursue a career in science and technology and eventually be determined to write a book where I delve into these fascinating topics.

• Can you tell us about your early experiences with writing and how you developed your skills over time?

Since I started school, I have loved reading and writing. At 17, I finished my first handwritten book, a collection of children’s stories, which my friends and family enjoyed. But I had so many other interests and hobbies, so I did not see writing as something I should pursue and took it only as a pastime. I concentrated on my university degree and passion for software programming and astronomy ventures. During that time, I enjoyed writing technical reports and presentations about my projects and writing short stories for myself. Although I was always busy with work and family life, my passion for reading and writing never waned.

• How did your university degree and passion for software programming and astronomy shape your writing process?

Many concepts I learned from my university degree, my work as a software programmer and my travels during various astronomy projects are reflected in the story and characters of my book.

In my novel “The Space Traveller’s Lover”, I delve into the most fundamental questions of our times: are we alone in the Universe? What is the meaning of life? Can the brain create and ultimately control any technology? Can we live forever while travelling to any part of the Universe? Can we harness an infinite source of energy?

• What motivated you to start taking your writing seriously after years of viewing it as a pastime?

Apart from being fascinated by science and technology, I also enjoy the intense emotions stirred by love stories. Hence I started wondering, “How powerful can love be?”

I had a lot of ideas in my head, and the more I thought about them, the more ideas came. Eventually, I had to write down all these stories. Seeing all my ideas come to life as written words on a document was such a relief. Then after that, I could not stop. I soon realised that the storyline was developing into a love dilemma set in a science-fiction background where I could let my imagination go free without limits.

The creation process was so enjoyable and satisfying that I had to write something every evening after dinner. It did not take long to set myself targets and goals and take my writing seriously. My book “The Space Traveller’s Lover” was published five years later.

• What was the inspiration behind your book “The Space Traveller’s Lover,” and what themes do you explore in it?

I have always wanted to write a science-fiction book based on all my experience and knowledge and as a homage to my favourite authors, artists and scientists whom I greatly respect and admire.

Apart from exploring the scientific mysteries that make us wonder and theorise, I also explore the impact of climate change and to what extent it will transform our civilisation and our environment. I cover a possible scenario in “The Space Traveller’s Lover” to make us think about the potential consequences. I hope it will make the readers think about our place, duty and responsibilities on our beautiful planet.

At the same time, the fast-paced, intriguing storyline showcases the beauty of the human spirit and the power of love.

• How do you balance your busy career as a software manager with your writing and other hobbies?

As I work full-time as a software engineer and manager, finding time for all my other activities and hobbies, like astronomy projects and travelling, is difficult.

Still, I follow a strict schedule based on priorities and achieving goals, so I make sure I also find time for reading and writing. It is all about discipline, sticking to the plan and celebrating the achieved milestones, however small.

• How does it feel to be an award-winning software manager and a published author, and what do you hope readers take away from your writing?

It gives me great satisfaction to be an award-winning software manager as well as a published author. The fact that I have achieved those milestones in subjects I am passionate about further motivates me to keep creating and accomplishing new things.

“The Space Traveller’s Lover” will take the reader on a journey of self-discovery and self-questioning. The story’s central theme is the love between humans, between humans and aliens and the love for our planet. It will make the readers wonder about their decision-making when confronted with the dilemmas presented in my book. Would we save everything we cherish in this world or give in to otherworldly temptations?

• What was your reaction when you found out that Voraka Magazine is going to feature your book, and what does it mean to you to receive recognition from such a distinguished publication?

Erin learns a lot about the Rom Ghenshars. Now, with such access, only Erin will be able to save the further destruction of the planet earth and save the human race from becoming extinct.

Now as Erin is exposed to the enemy territory, she learns of ways in which they operate. Erin is determined to save her planet, but how will she do it?

Will she get the help of any aliens in her endeavour?

The vividness of the plot kept me hooked throughout. The author’s language drew me into a future which might come true for our planet if we aren’t careful about the sustainable utilisation of our resources.

A very thoughtful, futuristic and apocalyptic science fiction novel which have read in the recent past.

A very well-written book with several twists and turns which makes it a page-turner. The author’s imaginative writing surely got goosebumps to me.

 I picked this book, and I was blown away by the author’s style of writing and the plotline.

• What is special in your book?

This inspirational love story brings about a sense of hope and expectation as the main characters confront their intense feelings and discover the one and the only thing they can’t live without.

• Do you try to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

While writing my book, I always had the reader in mind; what would they think? How would they feel? I wanted them to ask themselves what they would do in those situations. I wanted to take the readers on a mesmerising journey through otherworldly landscapes and incredible conflicts, and that, in turn, made the plot unique and original.

• Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?

Writing is all about pouring one’s soul into the written word. It is like composing an opera. There are ups and downs, twists and turns, sadness and happiness, excitement and despair. So it is all about emotions. I believe the stronger the writer’s emotions, the more enduring the message they can convey.

• How long did it take you to write this book?

It took me five years to complete my book, from the first idea to the release. As I am working full-time, I only could write in the evenings and at weekends. The process of writing, reviews, illustrations and interior design was very time-consuming but very satisfying as I achieved every milestone.

• Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I do receive lovely comments from my readers: For example:

• Apart from writing books, what do you like to do?

In my spare time, when not writing or working on software development, I love reading, listening to music, travelling, learning new languages, sky-watching, and participating in astronomy-related projects and events.

• What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?

Don’t give up. Write everything that comes to your mind, and turn your ideas into words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters and sections. Let your imagination flow as you write, and enjoy every moment. Then you can work on the storyline structure, dialogue and refining the characters. Set your goals and celebrate every milestone that you achieve.

• Would you share something about yourself that your readers don’t know (yet)?

I love rock music and am a big fan of “The Strokes” (The Strokes). I always go and see them in concert when they come to London.

I just finished reading this book.

The Space Traveller’s Lover is a ground-breaking work of science fiction. The story opens with the Earth on the brink of collapse. In the not-so-distant future, the world’s resources are running thin, and the planet is becoming uninhabitable. To make matters worse, the Rom Ghenshar, a vengeful alien race, has returned to Earth to deplete the remainder of humanity’s resources and replace human beings with more advanced replicas. Rothwen, a headstrong and ruthless alien soldier, develops an intense obsession with Erin, a bright young human student with a mysterious past. This book is filled with adventure, romance, an engrossing plot, unforgettable characters, gripping story overall. I was immersed in reading this for several weekends. I can bet you’re not going to leave it until you finish your last page.
